What are Thai?

Thai (Psilocybe cubensis) is a tropical, fast-growing cubensis variety with medium-sized to large mushrooms, sturdy stems, and light yellow to orange-brown or brown-red caps. The stem is known for its rapid colonization, high yield, and forgiving nature, making it excellent for beginners.

The effects are energetic, social, euphoric and visual, with a mild philosophical undertone. Less intense than stronger strains, but with enough depth for a fun, relaxing experience. A 1200 cc kit yields an average of 300–500 grams of fresh mushrooms over 2–3 flushes at 20–25 °C. Store the kit cool (2–4 °C) until use for optimal shelf life (up to approximately 6 months).

History of Thai

The Thai strain originates from the tropical regions of Thailand, including islands such as Koh Samui. Ethnomycologist John Allen documented local varieties in the 1990s. In Thailand, similar mushrooms have long been associated with festive and social gatherings, including the well-known Full Moon Parties.

Due to its rapid growth, high yield and cheerful, social effects, the strain quickly grew in popularity among growers worldwide. Modern ready-to-grow kits make it easy to grow this tropical genetics at home, while retaining the characteristic energetic and festive properties.

How do you use Thai?

Growing is simple and very beginner-friendly. Wash your hands thoroughly, clean the outside of the kit and fill it with lukewarm water (20 °C). Soak for a maximum of 5 minutes (never longer than 1 hour). Drain well, place the kit in the grow bag, add 200–250 ml of lukewarm water and seal with the paperclips.

Place the bag in a place of 20–25 °C, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Keep the bag closed until the first pinheads appear (often within 10–14 days). Air daily and mist lightly. Harvest just before the veil beneath the cap breaks by gently turning and pulling out the mushroom completely. Repeat the process for subsequent flushes.

For consumption: start low (cubensis dosage).

  • Light trip: ± 1 g dried
  • Normal trip: 1.5–2.5 g
  • Stronger trip: 2.5–3.5 g

Use in a safe, social or relaxed setting.
